Annually the historical Sehusa Fest is celebrated on the 1st week-end in September. „Sehusa“ (also „Sehuson“), the original names Seesens, one finds first in a document emperor Otto II of 974. He gave this „own property of his right“ with 20 not free families and 20 hoofs to country to the Marien’s cloister in home Ganders which was „by the sins of the people dahingesunken“ as one says in the document. This carries the seal Karl Otto and his chancellor for Willi’s G sharp, the archbishop of Mainz which have signed the document.
The castle Sehusa which was built in 1297 by Herzog Heinrich to the strange lies in the midst of the town. She was spatially bigger originally, enclosed many outbuildings, ditches and walls, and was surrounded by a lake. By several rebuildings she received her today’s shape. In the „legend from Silver-hollow“ the dramatic events of the town history of 1269 are adjusted.
Legend from „Silberhohl“ (Silver-hollow)
Once a castle should have stood at the edge of the forest. Delightfully and in joys the owners lived with mug sound and craps; as highwaymen they plundered passing businessmen; they murdered and pillaged in the places of the surroundings; if the heavy, eichenen chests filled thus with money, gold and jewellery. In the whole area the robbers were feared because of her cruelty and were hated. Only Jutta, the daughter of the governor of the castle Wulfardus, was respected by the inhabitants not exactly blest with wealth and was loved. Since if the desert father with his predatory journeymen on prey departed, she hurried to the arms and sick people, made them eat, she maintained and distributed a few which to her the stonyhearted father handed over. One day now the knights with rich prey returned loaded from a predatory attack. Again the carousal began, again the shouting of the drunken murder journeymen resounded far away tinting. There suddenly shook the earth; luminous flashes twitched from the sky, dreadfully there banged the thunder. The walls of the festival-added castle started to stagger, the surface of the earth opened, and with gruesome din the castle sank in the yawning abyss which shut about her. However, with the castle her name also disappeared, and the people called from now on the place at which she sank, Silver-hollow; since an extensive treasure in silver should rest there in the depth. However, Jutta still was long the good genius of the sufferers in the surroundings of the Silberhohls. As a white, from a thick veil umwallte shape she stepped in the chambers of the sick people, she comforted and helped them. And who, according to the legend, Jutta once desires to see, that must come at the New Year night – or in the Johannistag – at midnight here here to Silver-hollow. Then he sees Jutta wandering around as if she still searches the submerged castle.
